Back to Back 2013

Are you taking part in Tour De Fleece? Is spinning ALL you can think about? Here's some Fyberspates news that might just hit the spot.

Some of you might remember us posting about the opportunity to sponsor UK
representatives for last year’s International Back to Back Wool Challenge. It's a phenomenal challenge with exciting attempts to break world records for
knitting and spinning and this year, Fyberspates were once again proud
sponsors of the UK members of Team Groenewoud….. the winning team!

Fyberspates
Team Groenewoud comprises of 7 highly skilled handspinners and knitters
from the UK, Netherlands and Germany. 9 teams of blade shearers,
handspinners and knitters entered at their different venues around the world
in the nineteenth Challenge, on Sunday 9th June 2013. This event represents
a challenge to break the Guinness World Record for shearing a sheep,
spinning and plying the yarn and knitting a sweater to the International Wool
Challenge pattern standards. In supporting the two UK team members role in
the challenge, Fyberspates have helped Team Groenewoud come a step
closer yet again to beating the world record of 4 hours, 51 minutes and 14
seconds.

The team consists of a blade shearer, a sheep and seven handspinners and knitters and preparation for the event is a yearlong. The international team includes the world’s fastest knitter and other record-breaking spinners and knitters. This year, the Groenewoud team knitted a jumper from sheep’s back to theirs in 5 hours, 32 minutes and 37 seconds in a record breaking European Record to win this year’s International Back to Back Wool Challenge.

Backtoback

Once again, Fyberspates is proud to support the UK representatives as so
much of what we do is driven by a strong enthusiasm for the fibre world and
the community that enjoy crafting. We think this challenge is fascinating and
can’t wait for next year’s results, as the team seem to be going from strength
to strength!

Ready, Steady, Go!

Have you met Veuf Tricot? He's the husband of Fyberspates' pattern-tamer, Jen Arnall-Culliford. He amuses us no end with his column in Simply Knitting (Knitting Ruined my Wife), tweets and blog posts about life with a Knitter (Knitter with a capital K).

VeufTricot1

In a desperate attempt to avoid modelling knitwear for Jen's blog and Ravelry project pages, Veuf Tricot decided to run the London Marathon. He hoped that wearing lots of running kit and getting cold, wet and sweaty over the winter months would make him a less-likely model. He chose to run in support of Refuge, a UK charity that supports women and children experiencing domestic violence (you can read more about why he chose Refuge over on his blog). And this is where his knitting-avoiding tactics broke down... With a bit of prodding from BabyLongLegs, Jim decided that releasing an eBook of knitting patterns would be a great way to raise some money and awareness of Refuge. An unusual step for a self-professed "long-suffering knitting widower"...

So Jim has spent the winter knitting, and we are delighted that he's chosen Fyberspates MCN Sport as the yarn for his first pattern in the Ready, Steady, Go! eBook: The Ready Fingerless Mitts

Ready Mitts for Refuge7

We are donating £10.80 per skein from the sales of the Fyberspates MCN Sport in the Ready Red for Refuge colourway to support the brilliant work of Refuge. You can get yours here: MCN Sport in Ready Red for Refuge

All proceeds from sales of the patterns & eBook are going to the work of Refuge (after PayPal & Ravelry fees), and you can buy yours here...

Ready Fingerless Mitts £2.50:

Ready, Steady, Go! eBook £5.00 (remaining 2 patterns will be added automatically as they are released):

The remaining two patterns in the Ready, Steady Go! eBook will be a Steady Hat at the end of February and a Go! Scarf in March. All patterns are designed with running in mind, so keep your eyes peeled for them as they are released!

Many thanks to Andy for his kind donation of the yarn for these designs - thus enabling more of the proceeds to go to Refuge. Thank you!

We would like to wish Veuf Tricot lots of luck with his training, and here's to a great time in the London Marathon in April!
